Biologic and minimally invasive procedures may be appropriate for selected patients, but they are only one part of a complete plan. An accurate diagnosis, progressive rehabilitation, and realistic expectations matter just as much as the procedure itself.

What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?
PRP is made from a small sample of your own blood. The sample is processed to concentrate platelets in plasma, then the preparation may be injected into a selected area as part of a treatment plan. PRP preparations and protocols differ, and the research does not support the same result for every condition. We discuss whether PRP is a reasonable option for your diagnosis, goals, timeline, and budget before recommending it.
If I have shoulder pain, do I need an MRI?
Not always. A careful history, physical examination, and sometimes X-rays or diagnostic ultrasound can answer many initial questions. An MRI may be useful when symptoms suggest a tear, labral injury, bone injury, nerve concern, when the diagnosis remains uncertain, or when the result would change treatment. The best test is the one that answers a specific clinical question.
How can PRP help tendinopathy?
Tendinopathy is a complex tendon disorder, not simply “inflammation.” In selected chronic cases, PRP is considered with the goal of influencing the tendon’s local healing response and supporting a structured loading program. Some studies show improvement for certain tendon conditions, while results vary by tendon, preparation, technique, and rehabilitation. PRP is not a substitute for an accurate diagnosis or progressive strengthening plan.
How can PRP help osteoarthritis?
For selected patients with osteoarthritis, PRP may be discussed as an option intended to improve symptoms and function. It does not regrow a normal joint or reverse arthritis, and response varies. Weight-bearing activity, strength, mobility, sleep, nutrition, medication when appropriate, and other treatments remain important parts of osteoarthritis care. We review the evidence and alternatives for your joint and stage of arthritis before deciding whether it is appropriate.
How can PRP help tennis elbow?
Tennis elbow is usually a tendinopathy at the outer elbow. PRP may be considered for persistent symptoms after a well-designed course of activity modification and rehabilitation. Research has found mixed short-term results; some studies suggest PRP may provide more durable improvement than corticosteroid injections for selected chronic cases. The injection is only one part of the plan—grip, shoulder, and forearm loading strategy still matter.
Is image guidance necessary when injecting orthobiologics?
Image guidance is not required for every injection, but it is often valuable when precision matters. Ultrasound can allow the clinician to visualize tendons, joints, bursae, nerves, and nearby vessels in real time, helping target the intended tissue and avoid sensitive structures. Whether guidance is recommended depends on the body area, diagnosis, and planned procedure.
What is TenJet, and how can it help partial tears of a ligament or muscle?
TenJet is an ultrasound-guided, minimally invasive system designed to remove or debride selected diseased soft tissue using fluid-based technology. Partial tears of muscles or ligaments vary widely in location, severity, stability, and healing potential. TenJet is not appropriate for every partial tear; in some situations protection, rehabilitation, PRP, surgical evaluation, or another approach is more suitable. A focused examination and imaging review are essential before considering any procedure.
What is TenJet, and how can it help tendinopathy?
For selected chronic tendinopathy that has not improved with appropriate non-operative care, ultrasound-guided percutaneous tenotomy or debridement may be considered. The aim is to address a targeted area of diseased tendon while preserving surrounding tissue, followed by a structured rehabilitation plan. Current research is promising but still evolving; benefits, recovery time, alternatives, and risks should be reviewed for the specific tendon involved.
